Millionaire Dan Adamescu was appointed Chairman of the Council overseeing the company he stands accused of having looted. This controversial decision was made by the shareholders of Astra Insurer. In early September, the Financial Supervisory Authority filed for Astra Insurer's bankruptcy after the company in administration failed to raise the necessary, 425 million lei capital. When the Supervisory Authority declared Astra bankrupt, the Insurer had 1.8 million customers who had purchased some two and a half million insurance policies.
