New voices from among the Hungarians in Romania, from the Hungarian People's Party, have recently brought into question the autonomy of the Székely Land. But the efficient functioning mechanisms of this region are poor from the economy’s standpoint.

Analyses shows that the viability of Harghita and Covasna counties is similar to the poorest countries in the world, ie 12.3 billion lei divided over a million inhabitants. With a territory that has 75% mountains and without a strong industry, the county should support eight cities, eight towns and over 100 villages, 120 health facilities, 450 schools, plus hundreds of kilometers of roads. And the list goes on.

Another reality of the Romanian economy is the economy of Roma ethnics, which tends to become rapidly a reality of the European economy. It’s alarming is that their economy is largely based on delinquency and tax evasion.

Furthermore, the money of wealthy Roma are found in the real economy, given that most of them do not pay taxes to the state. It is more worrisome that as thriving as the economy of this ethnic group could be, it does nothing to improve the situation of its citizens, does not contribute to the elimination of poverty, nor to their enlightenment and integration into society.

Their only purpose seems to be the enrichment showcasing the extreme odds of a minority of bosses, kings or emperors. Moreover, their cumulated fortunes amount to tens of millions of euros.

Professor Mircea Coşea invited to the Daily Income show, said that in the absence of subsidies, Harghita and Covasna counties could not provide for themselves. "It is evident that, in my view, this indicates to another serious problem. (...) The existence of a Hungarian official policy, not very direct and transparent to finance certain areas outside the perimeter of the Hungarian administration, the idea of extending its influence that Hungary would like to have over the Hungarian people in other areas. The case is identical in Slovakia, " Mircea Coşea said.
