The Germans have made the most unfounded allegations against Romanian food products. The food statistics for the first half of the year indicate it.

Germany accused us of shipping them contaminated foods, but the tests results showed that in most of the cases the Romanian goods were not altered.

In the first part of the year, our country has been involved in 31 global food scandals. In eight of the notifications received on the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, Romania was a market for non-compliant food coming from other countries.

After the veterinary inspectors investigated the 23 producers accused, only half of the notifications were confirmed.

The Germans made the most unfounded allegations against Romanian food products. Eleven notifications were placed on the Rapid Alert System 12 of which were contradicted by the results of the investigators.

For example, they accused the Romanian producers of having sent Salmonella contaminated chicken and turkey contaminated with antibiotic residues. Moreover, they said they received from us forages infested with aflatoxin.

At the end of the investigations conducted by the veterinary inspectors, the Romanian products were found healthy.

Any food scandal incurs huge losses for producers. For example, following the aflatoxin infested milk scandal this spring, the processors in the industry lost almost €20 million in just three weeks.

A large amount for such a small industry.
