The number of foreign tourists accommodated in the tourist accommodation structures in Romania was 1,911,000 in 2014, and the total expenses incurred exceeded 5.09 billion lei, according to data released Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics.
Tourists travel to Romania mainly for business, participation in congresses, conferences, courses, fairs, their expenses representing 68.0% of the total expenditures.
Foreigners also come to Romania for private holidays, their expenses representing 32,0% of the overall expenditures.
Of the overall number of travelers to Romania in 2014, 44.5% contracted their holidays through travel agencies and 32.8% have organized their stay by themselves.
