Over half of the Romanian employees have gross earnings below 1,500 lei per month. Only 5% of them earn more than 5,000 per month and 70% of women and 65% of men have lower gross monthly salary than 2,000 lei according to the data presented by the National Institute of Statistics
A statistical survey on wages conducted in October 2012, published Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics shows that 5% of the number of employees who worked at least 23 days, on a full time job registered earnings below the minimum wage per economy (700 RON), 46, 7% of employees earned between 701 and1,500 lei and 32.1% between 1501 and 3000 lei.
In October, 11% of employees had gross earnings between 3,001 and 5,000 RON and 5.2% earned more than 5,000 RON. The distribution of employees shows a concentration in the lower earnings area of incomes below 2,000 lei, both among women (70.1%) and men (65.4%).
The number of employees registered on October 31, 2012, excluding firms with fewer than four employees was 4.3 million people, with men representing 53.9% .
The number of employees who worked 23 days full-time in October was of 3.6 million people (84.4% of the total number of employees). The percentage of women in this category was 46.6%.
The average gross base wage in October was 1,828 lei for employees who worked 23 days full-time while the average gross salary earned amounted to 2,052 lei.
Compared to the previous year, the average gross wage base increased by 6.3% and the average salary increased by 6.8%, Mediafax reports.
The most significant increases were in the administrative services activities and support service activities (13.0%) and in the mining and quarrying (10.8%).
The lowest gross earnings are made by the unskilled workers and by the workers in the services area (1,092 lei and 1,128 lei).
