In the first years after the EU accession, we used to think we were not the laggers of Europe Europe since the last place in most of the rankings belonged to Bulgaria. Meanwhile, our neighbors to the south progressed a lot and Romania did not. The “eternal competition in some areas seemed to be coming to an end.
Because our neighbors are far ahead of us. How have they managed to overcome us and what can be done to recover the lost ground?
One of the battlefields where Bulgaria defeated Romania undisputedly is tourism. Although a country twice smaller without as many tourists sights, Bulgaria managed to attract more foreign visitors than Romania. The positive development of this sector in the neighboring country has sparked the interest of companies from our country.
“We want to develop a HoReCa division in Bulgaria and we expect is to be as successful as in Romania” Daniel Mocanu said, the major stakeholder of the DAAS company providing products for the HoReCa industry ( hotels, restaurants, catering). The Romanian company, with a turnover of 23 million Euros in 2012, is following the steps of other companies that target the neighboring country, such as Siveco, Arabesque and Rompetrol.
"We're in Bulgaria to follow certain customers that extend their business to this market," Mocanu added. In addition to current customers, whom they go after at the south of the Danube, Romanian supplier hopes to win contracts with companies in Bulgaria.
