The amount that Romania has to pay to the IMF this year amounts to over € 1 billion. The amount consists of 985 million representing capital repayment rates while over 17 million stands for interest payments and fees.
Regarding refunds to the European Union, the entire amount of 150 million represents interest payments and fees as is the case for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the accounts of which will receive € 20 million.
Refunds are made for the loans Romania took in 2009 from the international lenders. Back then they amounted to 19.5 billion Euros. This arrangement with IMF provided Romania with seven of the eight installments prepared, ie EUR 11.9 billion. The eighth installment was considered, at the request of the Romanian authorities, preventive and not yet used.
The peak payment within this envelope will be in 2015, when Romania will have to repay nearly € 2 billion.
