Romania’s economy is showing signs of recovery : the GDP slightly growing

Romania's economy is showing signs of recovery. The first estimates of the National Statistics Institute show an advance of 0.3 percent in the second quarter compared to the first three months of 2013. The good agricultural production and exports helped the economy grow, according to financial analysts.

National Institute of Statistics (INS) gave us some good news today. The GDP’s growth  will not necessarily  be beneficial to our pockets, since raises in excises and gas price have been announced over the next period.

Compared with the same quarter of last year,  the registered growth was 1.2 percent.

The economy’s advance  is 1.7 percent higher in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period last year and below the optimistic expectations of the Prime Minister Victor Ponta who  said last month that the economy had grown by 2.4 percent in the first half.

Great agricultural production and foreign interest for Romanian goods are the main factors that supported growth, economists say.

Romanian goods sold abroad totaled over 23 billion Euros in the first half, an increase of nearly six percent. Imports decreased, too. That means  trade deficit fell by 45 percent in the first half. The grains harvest will have a greater impact on the economy in the coming quarters.
