Romanians who have tried to adopt a healthier diet after the holidays have had a nasty surprise. Vegetables and fruits prices on the market have increased considerably.
Traders anticipated the change of menu, so they inflated prices. Tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers costs almost twice as much than before Christmas.
After the culinary excesses of the holidays, many Romanians want to remove meat from the menu. The star dishes should be cooked salads and vegetables in every way, but many have found that they could not afford them. Naturally, the change should have been lighter for the pocket, but in reality, it cost more than it did two weeks ago.
On the markets across the country, a kilo of bell peppers is sold now with over 10 lei. For a kilo of eggplants or tomatoes, we have to take out more than 8 lei for one kilo. Before the holidays, the prices were smaller by 2,3 lei. The price doubling is justified only by the hunger for profits of the market traders, who have sold less over the holidays , when people were looking primarily for meat products.

Vegetables and fruits will be more expensive over the next period, the traders announce who account for the increase prices on the increased expenses on fuels and other utilities.
