They are living the good life at the National Bank of Romania. The estate of the central bank managers increased in 2012. According to the statements of assets, Governor Isarescu has added an apartment and several thousand Euros in bank deposits to his registered list of assets.
Even so, Isărescu could not manage to overcome Nicolae Dănilă, the richest banker in Romania who had an estate estimated at € 21 million in 2012.
In a single year, the fortune of Nicolae Dănilă - former president of BCR and currently a member of the board of the National Bank - increased by € 3,000,000. The money comes from the appreciation of Erste Group shares, interest, salaries, dividends and rents. The remaining € 18 million are kept in accounts, deposits, shares, investment funds and government securities.
Danila has got several houses and land plots, three apartments and a house in the Capital, an apartment in Năvodari and a holiday home in Snagov. His statement of assets feature three urban land plots and two farms.
For comparison, BNR Governor Mugur Isărescu’s wealth amounts to a few million Euros. Isărescu has deposits totaling €160,000 and jewelry and art objects worth h€ 126,000. His salary at the National Bank is confidential, but Isarescu also receives RON 3,800 from the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Economic Studies, where he teaches.
Compared to last year, the Governor has added to his estate an apartment worth € 300,000 purchased in the Capital. The apartment was purchased from the Governor’s savings completed with a 155,000 loan contracted in January 2012. The loan is for two years, and the Governor pays monthly €5,000 in installments, according to calculations.
