The Romanian retail market has entered the era of consolidation and the number of players in the market will decline, according to the analysts from a famous consulting company. Three strong brands could decide to sell their shops to the competition, according to a report by PMR Consulting, JurnalMM.ro reports.

The list of chains which could leave Romania’s market after some takeovers are Billa, Real and Cora.

"The transaction whereby the Auchan group has taken over 20 Real stores from Metro Group, for a quarter of a billion euro will be the last of its kind, given reports that the acquisition by Carrefour of the Billa supermarkets (now owned by the German group Rewe) is nearly completed.

There are also rumors according to which the four Real stores remaining in the Metro Group portfolio (after the transaction with Auchan ) and the 11 Cora hypermarkets are potential targets for those seeking to expand through acquisitions ", says the PMR Conhsulting report.
