The Volkswagen scandal has hit Europe too. The European Commission has called on all EU member states, including Romania, to check several VW models released since 2008.

The move came after the German manufacturer admitted that Volkswagen's emissions data manipulation software was present on cars sold in Europe.

There is a serious possibility that other car producers such as Seat, Skoda or BMW might be affected by this huge scandal.

This information is credible enough for the whole European Union to start making check-ups.

Volkswagen, the second largest car manufacturer in the world, used a so-called 'defeat device' - a data manipulation software that made the emissions of its diesel engines seem lower than the real level. The huge scandal prompted the resignation of the carmaker's chief executive.

Five models are at the core of this scandal: the VW Golf, Passat, Jetta, Beetle and the Audi A3. All in all, we're talking about 11 million cars produced in the past seven years. This unprecedented scandal might affect other brands too:  Seat, Skoda and even BMW, whose shares fell sharply yesterday.
