The recent appreciation of the national currency is not a danger to the economy, particularly for exporters, central bank governor believes.

Mugur Isărescu considers that the variations of  5 to 6 percent of the Romanian currency are normal.

Since the beginning of the year, the Romanian currency appreciated  by 2,5 percent against the Euro.

"Between 4.3 and 4.5, for example, the difference is less than 5 percent. Let’s  take a wider range: between 4.3 and 4.7 the difference is about 7 percent. We believe  that a reasonable 5, 6% is tolerable, it  is the area where the exchange rate needs to do its job. I can certainly tell you that we do not want to discourage exports, " governor Isarescu said.
