The Romanian official did not miss the opportunity to confront Gheorghe Muresan, a former NBA player for the Washington Bullets (now the Washington Wizards), the two being opponents in an one of a kind basketball game.
The match took place on the training ground team belonging to Washington Wizards, located in the Verizon Center , media representatives also played in the two teams.
Victor Ponta’s team won the game with Ghita Muresan’s son on their side.
Ponta and Muresan remembered that they used to be opponents in official matches on the basketball court in 1986, during a competition held in Mangalia, and again in 1989, in a tournament held in Sibiu, Muresan played for the University of Cluj and Ponta played for Steaua Bucharest
"The most challenging “confrontation " I had with Ghita Muresan was in America! He is still the same extraordinary man I used to play against in 1989 for the national basketball title! And he is extremely loved and respected here! I am very proud to be the countryman and the friend of "Big Ghita"! " the Prime Minister wrote on his Facebook account, where he posted a photo of himself with former NBA star.
"The Premier looks great on the ground. He played against the press and he had to do his best. He played very well " Muresan said at the end of the game, according to Agerpres.
Ghita Muresan offered Ponta as a welcome sign, one of his competition t-shirts with the number 77, while the Prime Minister thanked him and offered him in return a package of Romanian organic products including fruit jam jars and a bottle of wine.
