Senate President, Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, who launched his own Liberal Reformed Party today announcing his candidacy for the Presidency of Romania, was invited Thursday on the Daily Summary show on Antena 3.
Tăriceanu’s main statements:
- what he believes is most serious after two years since the referendum: "the coup" as Traian Basescu named it is a quite a serious affirmation that shook up many of the Romanians, there may have been people from abroad just as surprised
- It is legal and legitimate, it is a perfectly constitutional approach the referendum
- there have been a number of arrangements and the president remained in office in a democracy I do not think that there can be a clearer form of expression than the referendum
- Finally, the situation is completely overthrown and the President remains in office. And we still think we are a state with a rule of law...
- I believe that the justice system in Romania cannot operate like a pendulum in a position of equilibrium, unbiased
- on Dan Voiculescu: 3 people press charges against Dan Voiculescu for blackmail. On the same day, all three. How come all three come and press charges on the same day? Isn’t it a manipulation behind all this?
- Such occurrences make me wonder
-It is rather unlikely that this should be the result of a coincidence
- on the new party: today 20 MPs attended, but the quality of the people is just as important . There are many MPs I’ve talked to over the last few days who have expressed their will to join us
- I want us to have motions, a party’s program
- I believe we still need Liberalism in Romania
- We have to reestablished a liberal party because PNL, after the merger with PDL will melt. We want to establish a party for those with a liberal vision because Romania still needs this to reform the state
-We have to discuss the regionalization, the administrative-territorial reorganization.
- We want a strong Romania, based on exports which could create jobs.
- on the Party’s joining ALDE: We are being waited for with open arms, it's an important moral support. We take comfort not only in being part of the political game in Europe, but we can be active participants in the EP’s decision-making, where we will make decisions that concern us directly
