A new TV program – The President’s Office – was inaugurated Sunday, by Mihai Gâdea on the Daily Summary show, on Antena 3.
In the new format of the show, the President’s office is a replica of the Presidential Bureau which will host all the candidate for the office of president of Romania
The dirty secrets of the President’s office
Over the past 10 years, in the president's office wage cuts were decided, decrees of pardon for real estate mob lawyer were signed and two judges were invited over for coffee.
Other dirty secrets of the President are the ALRO case file - bribe for cheap energy worth 10 million euros, Russian oligarchs present in the president's office and influence peddling actions (see transcripts of Alro from 2006) or the business-Basescu Gazprom.
Sunday evening, the president's office hosted the second man in state, Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu, President of the Senate.
The main statements by Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu:
For the new office of the President, I brought a copy of the Constitution, it should not stand alone on a desk, it should be consulted and observed.
How would the office of president Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu look like?
The president must be a coagulation factor of the society, mediating between the state powers, with the obligation to be fair, neutral, impartial
He is not allowed to be a player, because he is losing credibility with political parties
He has got a project "Romania, the seventh power of Europe", Romania has to be transformed
about a president: the president should not act as a different kind of prime minister, which in the last 10 years he has tried to be, and during the Boc government this is what happened
Such a project cannot be completed in a president’s term of five years
Tăriceanu, on the main candidates for the presidency:
- about Victor Ponta: younger, but with promising perspectives for his political career
- Klaus Iohannis: worthy of a town mayor
- Kelemen Hunor: a serious politician, who keeps his word
- Dan Diaconescu: a demagogue and a populist
- Elena Udrea: I believe it would be best to ask the president, he is the specialist
- Monica Macovei: a prosecutor’s mentality in the political environment
- Teodor Meleşcanu: an old career diplomat
Who are the councilors Tăriceanu would choose and what would he do with the heads of the intelligence services
In the president's office, the moments when you are alone are few and there are no moments of respite
He should prepare together with his advisers (1, 2 or more) the participation in Government meetings. Then he must go with a very well written position paper and he should present it
The President shall address the Parliament with a message to the nation
The President shall, as frequently as possible, meet with the Prime Minister, but in a discreet manner, not to give the impression that he is the leader of the game
The president is not the Prime Minister’s boss, the Government has a special relationship with the Parliament, the Government must listen to the Parliament, the President is neither superior nor equal nor inferior to the Premier, they are in a working relationship
Whom he would take as advisers: in foreign policy Mihnea Constantinescu, in education policy and research, university. Prof. Anton, on institutional reform, university professor Adrian Ciocanea
Would you change the heads of the intelligence services ?
I saw a concern, the intelligence chiefs desire to be very public and very visible characters, and I do not think it is their role
I’d prefer to make a choice that gives stability and credibility, not to be suspected of partisanship and political influences
The likely "first lady", the first interview
I am a more discreet person, I leave my husband to get involved in politics. Regardless of the choices he makes, I am standing by him
I am glad that he will run and I know that this makes him happy. He is an active politician, an active man, I do not see him sitting at home from 16.00 h. I do not see him doing anything other than politics
Calin is my friend, a wonderful father; a devoted husband to his family, he is the man I love. It was love at first sight
Tariceanu asked what he would do if an interlope or a gypsy would get closer to his wife and put a golden necklace on her neck: I do not think I'd get in that situation, if you're president, you have to and you know how to behave in this function. Plus, you find out who will be there before
Tariceanu’ wife: I have other priorities than politics. I graduated the Arts School, I worked for a short period in television and I have decided that I belong in design, I opened a small workshop for custom made creations, I’ve been doing this for 9-10 years.
- I make custom made dresses for ladies
The new member of the Tăriceanu family will be born in December
We will have a boy, I thought of the name, but we have to put it up for vote
It is likely that Santa will bring him to us, he will come in December
- Tăriceanu: I like it that the child’s name should sound well in Romanian and to be named after a saint
- Loredana Tariceanu: it does not seem normal for us to meddle in the political arena, I prefer supporting him
My husband is a gourmet, he likes to eat okra, sniztels, salads less. He likes soups, tripe soup. But he likes sweets the most and the jam my husband makes is the best
Tariceanu: I make jams, homemade chocolate, scrambled egg
I am the owner of a large parcel of vineyard, 1,000 square meters and I have the right to 100 bottles of wine per year
