President Traian Basescu risks a new suspension if the CCR determines that  he is campaigning  and does not respect this decision, Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced.

The prime minister also said last night during the  Meeting Point show with  Radu Tudor,  that the president infiltrated  his own people in various state institutions who were  still willing to  make favours to the one who  appointed them.

“If the Constitutional Court decides on the 21st , that which I believe to be a sensible  and constitutional decision  namely that the president of Romania cannot get actively involved in the elections campaign, and after this decision   Traian Băsescu continues  to campaign, the next day – I am speaking in my capacity of  PSD leader – we will obviously submit a request for the suspension procedure. If he does not observe the decision of the Court, not only will we  start the suspension procedure, but I guarantee to you that this time no European partner – well there might be some intellectual friends of Mr. Basescu to shout out – but absolutely nobody will protect him”, Ponta added Sunday on Antenna 3.

The PSD leader Victor Ponta said Wednesday, responding to a question, that he will not trigger a new procedure to suspend  the President if the Constitutional Court decides that Basescu has violated the Constitution wearing a shirt with the PMP logo.

The Government submitted Tuesday with the Constitutional Court a notification related to president Traian Basescu’s involvement in the elections campaign.

The Constitutional Court rules before term in Basescu’s case: In Romania, you no longer put someone in jail, like durin Stalin’s rule, for the public opinion they express.

Premier  Victor Ponta  shows in the notification sent to the Constitutional Court that president  Traian Băsescu, on  the occasions of different public events has manifested his support for a  certain political party, the head of  state’s attitude materialized both by direct nomination of a political party that he  will vote and the active popularization of this political election signs, respectively  of the People’s  Movement Party.

President  Traian Băsescu stated  that he had definitley not breached  the fundamental law and he reminded the Constitutional Court’s ruling   since 2007 which clearly stated that “the president has not dropped from the sky”

President Traian Basescu said on Monday that he was not afraid of  a new suspension from office and conveyed to Prime Minister Victor Ponta that he would vote for the  Popular Movement Party and that he would make public statements  to that effect.

Asked if he was afraid of a new suspension from office, president Băsescu replied "No. (...) I am telling to  Premier  Ponta: I will vote for the  PMP and I will make public statements  whereby I will not hide this option ", the head of state said Monday for Adevărul Live, according to  Mediafax.

Basescu added  that Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s  "temptation"  to use the  state in a political battle is "obvious".

"Look at what he is doing with the Control Body. He is a man of  exaggerated ambitions  and he wants to be the  Alpha  male in terms of power within the state establishment of Romania, which is not right, because the balance between the powers is lost”, Traian Băsescu added.
