Asked if he discussed with EU leaders on the Parliament ‘s declaration about his resignation, Basescu said: "People are laughing".
"What these people do not take into account is that I’ve known them for 10 years, they trust me, I am considered the artisan of an operational justice in Romania and a Parliament who prejudices and accuses before the judiciary has had a chance to rule on the matter is a Parliament that has an issue in democratic terms ", Basescu said quoted by Mediafax.
He also added that "things have become clear to all" when European leaders understood that it was the same parties who had suspended him from office.
"Especially when they understood that the parties are the same from the suspension, things have become clear to all. They understand the objective", Basescu said.
He noted that this issue would not have been addressed if a domestic problem had not externalized.
"You should know that I would not have addressed the issue if the document , the Parliament’s declaration had not been sent out, so I approached it because it came from abroad. However, one has to also consider the likely prestige that a politician has when you want to turn into foreign policy a matter of domestic politics, " Basescu added.
When inquired if there were any questions on the details of the whole thing, Băsescu replied: "No, they outright laughed".
