President Traian Basescu said on Monday after meeting with Prime Minister Victor Ponta and the Minister of Finance, that the Government representatives were not able to give him the solutions needed to endorse the CAS reduction bill.
"I have not been too successful, I must admit it ", the president said in the opening of the press conference he delivered.
Basescu added that it seemed to him this was a matter of "government incompetence" because the representatives of the Executive did not provide “arguments in numbers" that would make him "more relaxed".
"For me it was clear that the only approach the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance have is political" , the president said.
Traian Basescu met today with Prime Minister Ponta and Minister of Finance Ioana Petrescu, for talks on the law reducing the CAS. The talks ended Monday at around 16.30, at the Cotroceni Palace.
President Traian Băsescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta did not get to a conclusion on the CAS reduction topic following talks held at the Presidential Palace.
The most important statement of Traian Băsescu:
The only approach the Prime Minister and the Finance minister have is political.
The Government representatives were able to provide me with the solutions and explanations needed
I expected the Minister to come up with a sheet of paper saying “one billion would come from here, another from there and this is how we cover the deficit”
In the preamble of the law itself, the Government’s analysis shows the uncovered deficit of five billion.
It appears that the impact on the state insurance budget will be of minus 6.5 billion and 1.6 billion would come from spending reduction, so the 5 billion remain uncovered.
Definitely, the IMF agreement will not be continued without presenting income sources both for the MTO and the additional bridging pension fund, amounting to 18 billion USD
