MPs plunged into another bitter row yesterday, during their debates on next year's budget.

This time, the bone of contention was the minimum wage. The budget also caused disagreement between former ruling coalition partners Liviu Dragnea and Călin Popescu Tăriceanu.

The MPs from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe were actually the only ones who voted against it. The budget passed by a comfortable majority though.

The row started after Senate speaker Călin Popescu Tăriceanu said the budget was more like a hotchpotch of leftovers.

Liviu Dragnea replied by accusing Călin Popescu Tăriceanu of trying to improve his image at the expense of Romanians.

Even if they argued over their parliamentary speeches, the former ruling coalition partners from the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe called in unison on the government to raise the minimum wage to 12 hundred lei a month. The Social Security Fund was approved by 290 yeas, 15 neys and 3 abstentions.
