Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, in the "President’s Office": The request to suspend the president is just as valid today 114
Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu, candidate for the Presidency of Romania , Senate President and Liberal Reformist Party leader, was Mihai Gâdea’s guest Monday evening in the President’s Office.

Tăriceanu spoke about the importance of the presidential elections, considering that President’s Traian Băsescu actions represent “a huge distraction".

"The suspension request I drafted us just as valid today as a month ago”, the head of state specified.

"Considerations related to the circumstances of the moment, the fact that a suspension is no longer worth making because he is on the finishing line of his term in the office, are reasons that I could not help considering, but I did argue against them at the moment and I believe that a mistake was committed at the moment when the members of Parliament did not take the decision to sign the suspension request and proceed with it", Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu said.

"What we see now, in addition to all violations committed in political terms is nothing but a huge distraction that makes the whole country talk about nothing else other than the issue of the undercover officer or the various arrests. Sure the time which ought to be dedicated to debating the candidates projects tends to be quite insignificant ", the former prime minister said.

According to him, the citizens are the ones that will have to lose because of the diversions created..

"The citizens will not be able to determine, to see clearly the offer made, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates. The president’s elections is not a game", Tăriceanu pointed out.
