The president of the Liberal Party (PNL), Crin Antonescu, was voted Senate President with 73 pro-s and one canceled vote. The procedure was vote by ballot, on voting papers.
After the official announcement that he was elected in this position, Antonescu said he would do more for the Parlament`s dignity and quality.

Being asked which would be the first measure to be taken, he replied: "For the moment, up to the appearance of the result into the Official Gazette, I do not fully detain this position. As soon as I am invested, we shall meet, we shall have a more detailed conversation and I shall inform you upon these matters, too ".

Regarding his election, Antonescu said that "we found ourselves in a very fluid political situation, a state of accelerated dynamics".

PNL president, Crin Antonescu, stated on Tuesday that the reunited session of the legislative Chambers would be resumed, but he would not lead this session though he was elected Head of the Senate as the decision had not been published in the Official Gazette yet.

He said that the Permanent Bureau of the Senate decided that, in the meantime, Senate`s Deputy, Ioan Chelaru should conduct the sessions held in the Senate.

Crin Antonescu’s nomination was singular, this proposal coming from the members of the USL Group. The other parlamentary groups did not have a candidate and the Democrat Liberals (PDL) did not take part at the session.
