PNL president, Crin Antonescu, posted a message on Facebook in which he mentioned that he would keep the promise made before the elections and that he would resign from the party’s leadership position.
PNL president, Crin Antonescu, stated Monday that the score his party got in the European elections was below the Liberals expectations. The PNL leader also specified that he would hold on to his promise and make the announcement in the party’s BPN meeting.
“With a 15% score, PNL cannot be satisfied, it is a result below our expectations. As we have announced in the campaign, not reaching the goal set is a failure that I as president take responsibility for. I will obviously keep my word; it has never been an issue. In the 14.00 meeting I will announce my colleagues and we will take a decision there”, Crin Antonescu affirmed.
Antonescu was asked whether he was sure he would resign.
"There is no doubt about it, only that a party president does not resign before the media, but because it is a political decision, he does it before his party," Antonescu said.
Antonescu said before the elections that if the Liberal Party will not get 20% of the votes, he will resign from the party’s leadership.
According to exit-poll data, the Liberals have only got 14% of the votes.
