“I hereby announce my intention of standing down from running for the office of President of Romania and to enable thus a speedy assignment, by the end of this month or July 15th the latest, of a new candidate who would be more easily accepted by everything that right wing political forces represent, by everything that right wing press means”, Antonescu said.
“I know, or at least I consider that I am the strongest candidate that the right wing could have had. I say this because I have the force, personality, the shape, the necessary political experience, the ideas, the vision and the capacity to fight so that this fall the PSD should not get their hand on the office of President of Romania”, the former head of the Senate said.
However, the Liberal leader said that he knows too well the Romanian political class, he knows the Romanian press and those who claim this title, he knows the Romanian media and how views and opinion are made and unmade on the current scene.
“I cannot help taking into account all these aspects. I know that real politicians are those who can change polls, not that polls should change real politicians. I have all that I takes for this battle, I do not have time to dismantle fixed ideas, to heal resentments, and to enlarge the horizon of limitations”, Antonescu explained.
However, Crin Antonescu announced he would not run in the presidential elections to favor the urgent appointment of a candidate that can be more easily accepted by the political forces of the right or by the press of the right.
“Aware that it is absolutely urgent that all the efforts to unite the right should take steps forward as firm as possible, that it is absolutely urgent that a candidate of the united right wing should be assigned, I hereby announce my intention of stepping down from running for the Presidency of Romania”, Antonescu said.
