Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos held a joint press conference with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
"Last year, I visited the NATO unit in Bucharest, one of the six small bases that we operate in Central and Eastern Europe. This base will ensure that NATO troops will deploy in Romania quickly if needed. (...) I recommend Romania to increase its defense budget spending. This measure is extremely important for our countries (...) . A powerful alliance is an essential basis for a more effective dialogue with Russia. We are working to restore predictability in our relations with Russia and transparency in our military activities. (...) We need more defense and more dialogue ", said Jens Stoltenberg.
"I stressed Romania's priorities and expectations from the NATO summit in Warsaw. We hope to see a strengthened NATO presence on the eastern flank. Romania is ready to engage actively including through resources for strengthening NATO's presence on the eastern flank. (...)We talked about Romania's commitment to army’s endowment. (...) These resources are added to the resources that other NATO member states mobilize. We also discussed the cooperation strengthening between NATO and the EU ", said Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.
