Romania is on the verge of losing billions of euros in funds allocated by the EU, points out Professor Dan Voiculescu in his blog. Dan Voiculescu appeals to the Government of Romania and says it's critical that the rate of funds absorption should rapidly increase in the next period.

Professor Dan Voiculescu said that Romania will lose at the end of the year a quarter of the European funds allocated under the cohesion policy.

"At the end of 2015, Romania will lose about 5 billion of the 19.8 billion euros allocated under the Cohesion policy (under the programming period 2007-2013). The biggest losses will be in the SOP Human Resources - where out of the 3.5 billion only 1 billion euro was accessed and in the SOP Environment - where out of the 4.4 billion only 1.7 billion were accessed".

So far, Romania has reached a rate of funds absorption of almost 55 percent, a rate far too low for the country's development. Thus, Professor Dan Voiculescu asks the government to accelerate the absorption of European funds towards the finishing line.

"The government promised and absorption rate of 80%, but it seems they will not be able to keep their word. It is time for the government to open their eyes! Europe’s money is not a fad, but Romania's chance to enter head high in the civilized world. I have always said: bet, while you can on a government focused on the absorption of structural funds by the end of 2015. Give the possibility to coordinate ministries to specialists in the absorption of EU funds know the EU institutional logic.

A better attraction of European funds will contribute to stopping the exodus of Romanians abroad in search of a better life, writes Dan Voiculescu.
