Asked how he commented the president’s statement that Victor Ponta acted as an undercover officer while working as a prosecutor, the Justice Minister said:
"These are definitely campaigning statements. At 6.00 (18.00h, editor’s note) we are making a statement, an appeal for a more rigorous campaign, at 10.00 (22.00h editor’s note) we have another statement on ridiculous topics".
Cazanciuc stressed that it is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice to tell if there are or have been covered officers in some institutions.
"It's not the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice to find out whether or not there have been covered officers in some institutions, whether there were or were not in some institutions, at a certain time," Cazanciuc added, according to Mediafax.
The minister said that, to his knowledge, the only conflict with the law was when "it was about officers who were snitches of the secret police, those who did political police."
"In that case we certainly have a conflict with the law," Cazanciuc said.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said Tuesday that Basescu is disturbed and tell lies, after the president accused him that he was an undercover officer of the SIE.
