Liberals President Klaus Iohannis, was assigned the Liberal candidate in the presidential election by the Permanent Delegation convened Monday.
He made statement after the Permanent Delegation assigned the current party leader Klaus Iohannis as the party’s candidate in the presidential elections.
"In the next stage a sociological research will be conducted to designate the candidate of the right wing. This will be completed on or around August 5. Saturday we are convening a Congress meeting and the PDL will hold one too, to approve the merger. Given that the specific law requires certain things, we discussed the status which was negotiate and practically received unanimous endorsement which we will present before the Congress this Saturday, " the new president of the Liberal Party said.
Asked to comment on how the Liberal candidate for the presidential elections was designated, he said: "The first comment is that I thank my colleagues from the Permanent Delegation because they came and voted. And when it comes to detailing this vote I can tell you that it was not a controversial vote, but was an absolutely democratic one, according to the statute that should regulate that. There were no cons, there were no critical statements made. It is an important thing, because this "fight" as you call it, was a concept circulated in the public without it existing in reality. We have not fought, we have chosen! " Klaus Johannis said.
He was also asked to comment about senator’s Ioan Ghişe intention ion to quit the Liberal Party: “I have learned about Mr. Ghişe’s intention to quit the PNL. I do not know what he is thinking. I am sorry for any PNL member who, from different reasons and usually temporarily, wants to leave the party a little bit”, he stated.
