Klaus Iohannis, tough attack against Victor Ponta: I doubt Romania still has an operational Government

Klaus Iohannis is harshly attacking Victor Ponta in the scandal of the Emergency Government Ordinance to provide higher salaries for dignitaries adopted by interim Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea and which Ponta argues that he disapproves of and will withdraw it.

"In connection with the subject of officials remuneration debated these days, I want things to be clear: in recent months, we have discussed many times with the Prime Minister the issue, at his own initiative. I subscribe to the idea that remuneration should reflect dignitaries importance in the state and it is not possible for a minister to have lower incomes than their subordinates. This is a matter of principle.

I also understand the people’s reaction who expect performance from dignitaries, just as I believe that such a measure should to be correlated in time with the relocation of the entire pay system. Otherwise, in terms of the means to achieve this principle, they are in the responsibility of the government and of the Parliament. But I cannot accept the idea that a Government should adopt by itself a certain decision, which the Prime Minister then wants to give up. This would be a lack of governance coherence, which calls into question whether Romania has a functional government or not, "wrote Klaus Iohannis on Facebook.
