Social Democrat Party (PSD) candidates won 1,677 mayoral races in last Sunday's local elections; the National Liberal Party has 1,081 mayors, the Central Electoral Bureau announced on Friday, after completing the count in all 3,186 polling stations.
In Bucharest, Social Democrat Senator Gabriela Firea is mayor-elect, with 42.97 per cent of the votes in the city's 1,252 polling stations. PSD's alliance with the National Union for Romania's Progress (UNPR) has 24 municipal counselors; the Save Bucharest Union is next with 15.
