EP President Martin Schulz, announced Wednesday before the plenary, that Mihai Ţurcanu replaced Eduard Hellvig in the European Parliament after the latter was appointed director of SRI.
"The responsible authorities in Romania have told me that, from 1 March, Mihai Ţurcanu replaces Mr Eduard Hellvig in the European Parliament" EP President Martin Schulz announced on Wednesday in the plenary meeting in Brussels, Mediafax reports.
The PNL spokesman, Ionuţ Stroe, stated on March 3 that the MEP seat of Eduard Hellvig, left vacant after his appointment as head of the SRI was endorsed, will be taken over by the one next on the list in the European elections, namely Mihai Ţurcanu.
Stroe was asked after the PNL meeting who will take over the MP seat left vacant , after Eduard Hellvig’s resignation to be appointed Head of the Romanian Intelligence Service.
"According to the law governing the European elections, the next on the list is the one who will go to Brussels. There was no debate on this subject in this meeting (the old Liberal leadership – editor’s note) normally MEP Mihai Ţurcanu is next on the list we had last year ", PNL spokesman said.
