Next up a hot topics week for the Romanian politics

There will be a very hot topics week for the Romanian politics. PNL and PDL are close to having ready the documents for the establishment of the new party, the Liberals choose their new leadership after  Crin Antonescu’s resignation and the PSD will decide on the nomination of the party’s candidate in the presidential elections.

It is going to be a very interesting week for Traian Băsescu too. The president will make his first trip abroad since the outbreak of the huge scandal involving his brother.

Monday morning, the teams negotiating the PNL merge with the PDL will sit down again to conclude the statute of the future party. The project is almost ready, over the next week the working protocol  will be  completed. PNL and PDL want to draft the papers needed by July 1, in order to speed up the organization of the parties congresses to validate the merger.

Until the merger, the Liberals  are busy solving their own internal problems. Saturday, the Liberals choose their new leadership and officially validate  their affiliation to the European Peoples Party. Klaus Johanis and  Ioan Ghişe are the candidates for the top position inside the PNL, but we should not overlook a surprise candidacy by Crin Antonescu, either.

The PSD is busy making the final arrangements for the party’s meeting  which will decide the candidate in the presidential elections. The entire PSD leadership  will go to Orăştie on June 30 to attend the meeting of the National Executive Committee convened to decide the party’s strategy  for the presidential elections.

Also next week, Traian Basescu will attend the European Council of 26-27 June, the first foreign visit since the outbreak of the bribery scandal  involving his brother. The disclosure about   corruption actions committed  at the highest was published  by the media  from around the world, which is why Victor Ponta is asking  again for a mandate  to attend the  Brussels meeting. All the  more so since  our country needs credibility  to attend a council meeting of  historical importance.
