"Romania has been accused for many years of two issues: corruption and the Roma issue. Or, now we have a public figure, Mr. Traian Basescu, who embodies both: corruption, corruption related to the Roma organized crime clans "Ponta said according to Mediafax.
The prime minister believes that with the resignation of President Basescu, it will not be the party in power to win, nor will the opposition but Romania and the image of Justice, prosecutors and judges will not have to go through the procedure of being appointed by a person whose family is involved in so many criminal cases.
Ponta added that he voted in his capacity of MP for the political statement whereby the Parliament is asking president Basescu to resign.
"I voted first as an MP in favor of what would actually be good for Romania. Traian Basescu has defied the will of the people who dismissed him in 2012, and he is likely to defy also this overwhelming result - 344 votes, which is not only the ruling coalition, but it's the absolute majority of the Parliament, "Ponta said.
The Parliament adopted Wednesday the declaration asking the resignation of president Traian Băsescu as a consequence of the scandal his brother is involved in.
