Ponta announced after the BPN meeting of PSD the PSD’s events calendar on the nomination of the candidate for president of Romania, which is divided into several actions: CExN convened on June 30, National Council on August 1, and the Congress to be hold in September.
He said that during the National Council on August 1, procedures will be established and candidacies submitted of those who want to run in the PSD to be nominated as candidates for the office of resident of Romania.
Asked if he submitted his candidacy during the National Council, Ponta replied: "If I decide to run for President of Romania, obviously I will submit my candidacy with the National Council."
Victor Ponta said that the assignment procedures are clearly provided by the party’s statute.
“I am speaking about the big procedure. If there is just one candidate, we will assign him in the September Congress. If there are several candidates, then we will have to put in place an assignment procedure inside the party of the one who will later go before the Congress”, he added.
Asked whether Mircea Geoană expressed the desire to run in the presidential elections, the Prime Minister replied: " On August 1 you will know exactly who express their desire and who does not".
