PSD President, Victor Ponta, said Monday that the party's voters conveyed a very strong message, and the Social Democrats should "have the decency and wisdom to shut up a time and think about what needs to be changed", but governance will continue.

Moreover, the Prime Minister declared his wish to have a dialogue with the newly elected President Klaus Iohannis, stating he would not resign as prime minister and wanted to continue governing along the existing partners, plus the PLR.

"I am also expressing the wish to dialogue with Mr. Iohannis", Ponta said, noting that he was convinced that the President-elect will want to work with him and the ruling coalition.

Ponta also added that “as we respect the voting cast yesterday, Romanians voted in 2012 for a governing coalition and a Government and we will continue to proceed as such. As long as I have the coalition’s support, I am determined to stay as prime minister”.

Klaus Johannis obtained 54.50% of votes in the second round of the presidential elections, and Victor Ponta was voted by  45.49% of voters who have voted, according to partial results released Monday by BEC, after  centralizing 99.07% of the votes.
