President Klaus Iohannis rejected Thursday the pardon applications submitted by Monica Iacob Ridzi and former director of the Food Research Institute (ICA), Gheorghe Mencinicopschi.
The families of the two had submitted applications for presidential pardon for the two invoking medical grounds.
The request for pardon can be resubmitted by anyone in the family of former Sports minister Monica Iacob Ridzi or the family of the former head of ICA, Gheorghe Mencinicopschi.
The family of professor Mencinicopschi has submitted several medical documents according to which the former CEO of ICA is suffering from several diseases.
It is not known why the pardon applications were rejected by President Klaus Iohannis, and in this case there is no motivation, as it happens with court rulings.
The pardon granting is an individual attribute of the Romanian President, the Ministry of Justice is sending an advisory opinion which the head of state may or may not take into account.
