Alessandra Stoicescu presented on the "Q&A" show on Antena 3, the reason why the former president Traian Băsescu risks to go to jail considering the denunciations made about the illegal money used in his elections.
According to Law No.78 / 200 on preventing, detecting and punishing corruption, (...) penalties and sanctions can be applied to those "who hold a management position in a party or a political party, into a union or an employers' organization in a non-profit association or non-profit foundation ".
Article 13 states that "a person who has a leading position in a party, a trade union or employers association (...) and uses influence or authority for the purpose of obtaining for himself or for others money, goods or other undue advantages, shall be punished with imprisonment from 1 to 5 years "
Dorin Cocos showed in the denunciation made before the DNA that he was asked to pay products for PDL worth three million euros during the campaign of 2009 in order to receive government support in carrying out the Microsoft contract, noting that he was supported by Vasile Blaga and Elena Udrea.
Gabriel Sandu also told investigators that throughout his term in the office of minister of Communications he had allegedly funded the PDL monthly with amounts reaching 300.000 euros.
"I acknowledge and admit that I agreed to finance the party and its actions to facilitate political support for myself and keep my position of minister and the central leadership position within the PDL. To be precise, in my case, I had to bring the party about 5 million, which I paid in advance from my personal funds, legal money, which I partly recovered partially in the manner set forth by Claudiu Florica, Gheorghe Stefan and Dorin Cocos. Basically I had to contribute in the 2009 presidential campaign with four million euro", Sandu said.
