Romania will take in 42 hundred immigrants. President Klaus Iohannis made this announcement yesterday, right before leaving for the European Council in Brussels.

The head of state practically came up with another round figure, taking into account that this country had rejected the mandatory quotas.

In turn, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that Romania was getting ready to accommodate refugees and was determined to promote European and not xenophobic policies, like Hungary.

Romania is not against taking in refugees, says President Iohannis, who claims he agreed to accommodate immigrants, but in keeping with the limited resources of this country.

Klaus Iohannis said he would reiterate Romania's stand in favour of maintaining a balance between solidarity and responsibility as far as voluntary immigrant quotas are concerned.

Victor Ponta, however, adopted a firm attitude during the Cabinet meeting and unleashed a virulent attack on the barbed wire policy implemented by our neighbours from Hungary.

In the Prime Minister's opinion, Romania must make sure it has the necessary logistics in place and all Ministries must get ready for what is to come.
