A Romanian village mayor has made a fabulous fortune by embezzling 114 million euros through his own companies. The Mayor of Şelimbăr was questioned by anticorruption prosecutors who allowed him, howwever, to go back home.
This village mayor owns a huge villa of about one thousand square meters plus an indoor swimming pool, 13 hectares of arable land, 10 hectares of lakes and a horse stud farm worth half a million euros.
The list of charges levelled against the good Mayor is as long as a thoroughbred race track: creation of organised crime ring, bribe-taking and giving, influence peddling and buying, abuse of power, money laundering, forgery of documents and use of forgery and so on and so forth...
