Oana Stancu presented in the  Sunday evening "Special Edition"  program on Antena 3, Basescu's real estate saga that captures the president’s "weakness"  for state provided housing.
1980:  A four room apartment in Constanta, a generous allocation from the state considering the number of family members, significantly lower.  Traian Băsescu later bought it, in 1992.

1991: A villa in the  57 Aviatorilor Boulevard, granted to  Traian Băsescu as protocol housing based on his argument that he would live there accompanied by his wife, his two daughters, and also his father, to account for the increased number of rooms. The villa was claimed  by painter  Sabina Negulescu. The communist official who used to live there until then, moved out after hearing about the  property claim over the building, while Băsescu Traian, on the other hand declined moving out of it even if he knew the house had been granted back to the owner based on a final court judgment.

1997: Traian Băsescu gest from the RAAPPS state authority, in his capacity of Transport Minister, an entire floor of the building in  4, Mareşal Prezen , nearby the Arch of Triumph. In  2000, once elected mayor, he refused to move out from the state building pretexting that he did not have  the money to build a new house.

August 2002:
while he was still living in Mareşal Prezan, mayor  Băsescu grants himself the house in  2,  Ştefan Mihăileanu (334 mp),although he did not meet the criteria provided by the law to receive housing from the city hall. He  files a request to buy the house, right afterwards.

October 2002: Băsescu buys the villa in the  137B Bucureşti -Ploieşti  bld. and donates it to his daughter Ioana, two weeks later.

February 2003: The mayor buys the house in the  Mihăileanu street for a lousy 19.000 dollars, but he continues to live in the same villa in the north of the City which he had donated his daughter.

February 2005: Băsescu announced he would  give back the house in the  Mihăileanu street, which  he never did.
July  2005: once elected president of Romania, he move into the  official residence in  Primăverii, Vila Lac 3, for which investments amounting to  2.000.000 euro have been made!

In his ten years as president, Băsescu Traian requested the refurbishment and retrofitting of the Dante Villa(1387 sqm, 5128 sqm yard, pool, gym, dock to the lake) just to go an d swim there.

He also asked that the following state properties be registered as protocol houses  available for the president:  Ceausescu’s villa in  Covasna, the villas compound in Neptun, Predeal, Foişor Palac in Sinaia, Scroviştea land property and the  Olăneşti Palace.
