UPDATE – The motion of censure submitted by the Liberal Party against the Ponta government was rejected by Parliament with 194 votes "for", 13 "against" and 7 votes canceled.

To be adopted, the motion would have had to be voted by 278 MPs, meaning half plus one of the elected.

Prime Minister Ponta said after the motion rejection that the opposition proved that it did not have a parliamentary majority and thus closed the discussion on this topic. The Government should continue its work, the country needs to be governed, the Prime Minister said.

UPDATE – The vote for censure motion began in the Parliament. To be adopted, the motion should be voted by 278 MPs out of 554. PNL already held negotiations before the vote, and UDMR announced that they would vote "according to their conscience."

The Ponta Government has today passed the first test since the inauguration of Klaus Iohannis at Cotroceni. Lawmakers vote today the Liberal motion, which seeks to drive out the Ponta Cabinet because they mismanaged the diaspora vote in the presidential election of last year. UNPR and PSD announced they would abstain from voting. On the last moment, the Liberals negotiated with MPs hoping to convince as many representatives to vote against the government .

So far, only MP Marian Avram has resigned from PSD and announced that he will vote the censure motion. The calculations are not in the motion supporters favor.

Power representatives announced that they will be present in the chamber during the vote but would not rise from the banks to introduce balls into the box. Victor Ponta's coalition colleagues gave assurances that UNPR and PLR MPs will be disciplined and will not vote to support the Liberal Party ‘s motion.
