Judges of the Constitutional Court of Romania have recently established that the President of Romania shall enjoy the same immunity as the  MPs, which means that Basescu may  undergo criminal investigation for the  actions he commits, except for political statements.

The specification can be found in the CCR decision dated May 21, 2014 issued by the constitutional judges as a resolution to a request filed by Prime Minister Victor Ponta on the constitutional legal conflict between President Traian Basescu and the Romanian Government.

The CCR  decision that could shatter the immunity of president  Băsescu was presented Wednesday in the show "
100 minutes with Alessandra Stoicescu".

Under the decision no. 284 of May 21, 2014 signed in unanimity, it is being pointed out that the president of Romania  is liable under the same circumstances as the Member of the Romanian Parliament for any crime committed during his term in the office, which is unrelated to the opinions publicly expressed, luju.ro reports.
