Traian Basescu will leave a heavy legacy to the new president. In 2015, Romania has to return the biggest amount from its debt to the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the European Commission, after the Boc government borrowed in 2009 nearly 20 billion from our external partners. Also next year, the medium-term debts the state has contracted during the economic crisis will have to be returned.

The most consistent amount of money, 1.65 billion, has to be returned to the European Commission. Of this amount, 150 million represents only the interest. The amount to be returned to the International Monetary Fund is 155 million, while over 10 million will go to the World Bank. In this way, our country will return a few installments of the loan of 20 billion that the Boc and Basescu government contracted in 2009.

To this amounts, other payment obligations are added. Also in 2015, Romania has to return another 9,2 billion euros, money loaned through financial credits from banks or by bonds issuance.

Over the past 13 years, Romania's foreign debt rose from 15 billion to 100 billion. Compared to December 2004, when Traian Basescu became president, the external debt rose by 80 billion.
