Traian Basescu has admitted that the intelligence services have been controlled by him. In a television broadcast, the president has said today that he has currently lost control and that the operatives are shifting to the new leader who would be president.
"Romanian Secret Services have become extremely powerful and we have no control over their work. The temptation is for them to leave the state of civil servant and acquire also the power to influence political decision. It’s the temptation of any service in any country when there is no effective control mechanism. During my term in the office, I controlled them, meaning they could not recourse to anything”, the president said.
Traian Basescu says that towards the end of his term in the office he lost control over the services and spies who are now looking for a new boss.
