The Romanian MFA welcomes the  ratification Tuesday by the Supreme  Rada in Kiev and by the European Parliament of the EU - Ukraine Association Agreement, addressing congratulations on this occasion to the authorities and citizens of Ukraine.

"The  Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the ratification, on September 16,  2014 by the Supreme  Rada in Kiev and by  the European Parliament of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, which includes the free trade area, profound  and comprehensive, and congratulates on this occasion the authorities and citizens of Ukraine. The voting  expressed today in Kiev and Strasbourg confirms the advancement  of Ukraine on the European path for a better safer future, with  dignity and prosperity. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its strong support for the pro-European choice made ​​freely by the Ukrainian people, "the press release issued Tuesday by the Foreign Ministry, quoted by Mediafax .
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs  also expresses its belief in a rapid ratification of the Agreement by the other Member States of the European Union.

Romania was the first EU member state to ratify, on 3 July, the Association Agreements between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.


The European Parliament ratified Tuesday at the same time as  the Ukrainian Parliament, the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, according to AFP.        

In this vote qualified as a 'historic' one by the European Parliament President Martin Schulz, the agreement obtained 535 votes "for" 127 votes "against" and 35 abstentions.

Schulz pointed out that "there has never been a voting simultaneously held in two Parliaments called to ratify an Association Agreement."

"The European Parliament has always defended the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and will continue to do so", he added.

The European Parliament in Strasbourg had a  direct video connection to the  Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), where the Ukrainian Parliament also ratified the Association Agreement.     

This Agreement shall be provisionally applied in the European Union because it will be ratified by all national parliaments, which could take several months.
