Former president Traian Băsescuis being criminally prosecuted for money laundering in the case file about the land plot sold by businessman Costel Căşuneanu, plot located in Aleea Privighetorilor.
Traian Băsescu is accused of money laundering in a continued form.
In 2000, when he had just become the mayor of Bucharest, Traian Băsescu bought a plot of land in Băneasa with money for which he could not account the origin, prosecutors say.
The former president had not been summoned yet, but will be summoned to the Prosecutor General for hearings.
Prosecutor Elena Iordache from the Criminal Investigation and Criminalistics within the General Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against the former head of state on April 13, according to the website româniacurată.ro.
The next day, a police team went home to Traian Basescu and notified him of the indictment.
Basescu should have been summoned today at the Prosecutor’s office to be officially informed about the allegations against him, but in the end, the invitation to the Prosecutor’s office was postponed to a date yet to be determined.
According to judicial sources quoted by the cited source, the prosecutor based her accusations on witness statements, bank documents and reports of the Office for the fight against money laundering.
