Traian Basescu is prosecuted in a new case file, for office abuse against the person, at the request of the Prosecutor General. The former president is accused that during the time he was mayor of Bucharest, he illegally restituted several buildings. Dozens of people have already been evicted from these houses.
The case was reopened on the 5th District Court at the request of the Prosecutor General, after it had been closed in 2010 with the resolution of no prosecution because it had exceeded the statute of limitations, Adrian Ursu announced during the Daily Summary show.
The complaint was filed by Mrs. Preda in relation to the restitutions ordered by Traian Băsescu during the time he was mayor of Bucharest.
Mrs. Ioana Preda declared during the Daily Summary that she had been evicted from her own home two years before and that for the past 12 she had been fighting for her rights.
„Nobody will give me back the 12 I’ve lost in courts”, Mrs. Ioana Preda added. „ I did not expect this anymore and I did not believe that justice will ever be served in Romania”, Ioana Preda added.
Asked what she would like to convey to Traian Băsescu, Ioana Preda said: “ He should be ashamed and God will take care of each and every one . (...) He destroyed my life, he destroyed my family”.
The case of the illegal restitutions performed by Traian Băsescu in favor of Nicolas Jordan was presented several times during the Daily Summary show. Tens of tenants have been evicted so far and the last of them have been dragged out of their homes in March, when the gendarmes were called.
The eviction nightmare started in 2003, when there came Nicholas Jordan knocking at their doors claiming to be the heir of the family who allegedly owned the houses in Şerban Vodă, donated to the Romanian state. Residents evacuated claim that Traian Basescu, at the time he was mayor, had signed the documents without proof that Jordan was indeed the son of the former owner. Even one of the court decisions clearly showed that Jordan could not prove his identity.
However, until now, the tenants legal pursuit had no effect. Traian Basescu was also the subject of complaints by the prosecution, but was given a no prosecution decision, on the grounds that the President enjoys immunity.
