Prime Minister Victor Ponta pointed out in his speech upon launching his candidacy in the presidential campaign, that he wants to be the president of all Romanians, that he is convinced that Romanians can do many things together and that he wants the Romanians to be proud of their country, wherever they are.
Here are the main ideas from Victor Ponta’s candidacy launching speech:
-Good evening, dear friends! Good evening, dear Romanians! I want to say first one thing: see that the sun rises on our street too! And in our country! We have very little. We still have 55 days and another battle to win and I call on you all to start with me the road to change, I call on you all to come along to the great unity of all Romanians!
-I want to greet all those present, mainly my guests and thank them. It is a great honor to have them with me today, my colleagues from PC, those from UNPR and I want to thank my Social Democrats. Hello, PSD! But I want to thank all Romanians who still foster hope, who still believe that the sun will come out in our country after many years in which he has been hiding out.
-I want to ask you one thing from the beginning. I want you to think, beyond the speeches, the campaign, I want you think of something we have forgotten in these 25 years. We can be together and not separated, we can take care of each other, we can trust and be proud. Please think about all this. Together we can do so many things we are now doing separately. If we take care of each other, we will have the peace and security that we want. I want to rediscover something that has been long lost Romania:
-I want us to trust each other! I think that change is not just about changing a president, of a system means, it means our change, of each one of us. Dear Romanians, colleagues, I am Victor Viorel Ponta. I want to be the president of Romanians, of those Romanian who trust, of those Romanians who are proud to call on you to be together with me in this great battle for the great union.!
-I have been with you for many years, you know the things that I've done, I am afraid of one thing: not to disappoint you, do not be deceive your trust, not to show that we can change Romania together.
-I will drink a lot of water because I am nervous. I want to say how grateful I am that at 37 years old you have had confidence to elect me the head of the strongest party in Romania, we have been united and we have won all the competitions. We will win the one on November.
-Today, at 42, I feel ready, I have the courage, confidence and faith that together with you, I can be president of the Romanians, we can make the biggest change have been waiting for. I want to be the president of all Romanians who will celebrate 100 years since the Great Union!
-Together we restored pensions payments, wages, we have reopened hospitals, we have done all those things that in 2011 blocked up. There is still a lot to do. I ask you to continue working on it !
-I'm sorry that some are not here today. We are many more than back then and I want to tell you that I want to be the president of all Romanians, both of those who support me and of those who do not support me, I want us to be together and to succeed in the great union!
-I want to ask a question to which I know the answer. I have managed to do many things while the ones who were supposed to help us braked us, blocked us , sabotaged us. I say one thing: Do you realize how many things we can do if we are all united? That's what I want us to do!
-I want to say that I’ve learned something very important from Traian Basescu. I’ve learned what not to do if I become President of Romania, how not to behave if you should have the confidence to assign to me this high position, I have learned how not to embarrass the whole country and I want to say once again that I will be the President who will show respect, who will embrace dialogue, understanding! I want to be that president you can be proud of. But I want all of us to change, not just the president, to be confident and proud! I am asking you and calling on you to join me in this great change of Romania.
-Those who have harmed Romania, I want them to pay. Not as a revenge, but because I promised justice all the way. I want it to be union where there has been division, where there was hate, I want it to be respect and love, where there was fighting, to have peace. I have showed in these years that I can lead an incessant war against a regime, I am still standing today, I am with you today and today I feel that Romania needs peace and unity. I am asking for your support in achieving the great union that Romania needs!
-I call on all Romanians, let’s take down those walls raised between us, between those from Ardeal and Moldova, between the rich and the poor, the state and the private, the old and the young. In the last 10 years, walls alone have been raised. Come join me and let’s take down those walls!
-I promise to be the first to provide an example of unity, tolerance, compassion, dialogue. I believe the living example of the president of the country is fundamental so that we can all go in the same direction, I promise you that I will be the president of all Romanians and together we will make this country strong and united.
-My country and my Romanian people will always be here, here is where I want to die, together with you is where I want to live. Victory!
