Prime Minister Victor Ponta, while on a work trip to Moldova, said that the reunification of Romania and Moldova will only be achieved by the will of the citizens of the two countries, as Romania is part of a European and transatlantic system of values and does not take over territories by force.

„Romania is not Russia. We do not take over territories by force. If ever, during my lifetime, during the life time of our children, those living here on this bank of the Prut and those living on the other bank will want to – I would vote in favor, but my vote is not enough – to re-unite, this would obviously be the will of the people and I believe it would be a great thing. But for Romania to come over the Prut and take by force Moldova, take over the Gagauza region, that will never happen, because Romania is part of a European and Trans-Atlantic system of values, where nobody comes and takes by force someone else”, Ponta said according to Mediafax.

The prime minister said that Bessarabia was taken over by force by the Soviet Union, which Romania will never do.
