Prime Minister Ponta says that the problem arisen between him and President Iohannis on the tour in the Arab countries topic about which the President reproached that the Prime Minister acted "on his own", was the result of a miscommunication, but that the Constitution sets forth foreign policy tasks for him as well, Mediafax reports.
Ponta claimed during an intervention on a television channel that the procedure for foreign visits provides that the Foreign Minister discusses with the presidential adviser on foreign policy, and hence the lack of direct communication between him and President.
The Prime Minister also stated that his tour in the Arab countries was prepared for over a year and that data was requested from the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service.
"It was a miscommunication. I should have taken over the phone call. A better communication does no harm to anyone," Ponta said.
He added that he saw analysts who argued that foreign policy powers are vested in the President alone and stated that the text of the Constitution clearly sets forth the role of the President and that of the Government.
President Klaus Iohannis said on Friday that Prime Minister Victor Ponta left on his own in the tour in which he has performed several visits in the Arab states, and that he had not talked to him beforehand, adding that he informed him when he returned into the country that he had had some sensational conversations .
Asked whether he had any previous discussions with Prime Minister prior to the departure in the tour in which he conducted several visits in the Arab countries, the president said: Prime Minister, Victor Ponta left on his own, he did not discuss with me in advance to the visits he performed in the states of Arabia. He informed me after he returned home that he was there and had some sensational discussions, we do not know about what exactly, but apparently they were very good.
Klaus Iohannis added that this is a new way of conducting the foreign policy, each his own.
